About us

After reviewing overseas research behind Maxia Complete it seemed too good to ignore so we began trialling it on our own and our friends horses.

Within a short period of time we had significant improvements in the behaviour of the horses, in particular the ones that are sensitive to the flushes in grass growth and also the horses on high grain diets, so much so that we wanted to share the opportunity for other horse owners to use Maxia Complete and enjoy the benefits we have, hence Seahorse Supplements was launched in February 2015.

Since then our product Maxia Complete has gone from strength to strength and is now widely used nationwide.

In early 2016 we ran a clinical trial in conjunction with nutritionist Dr. Lucy Waldron (LWT Animal Nutrition) and vet Dr. John O’Brien to test Maxia Completes effectiveness in reducing gastric ulceration in horses.  The trial showed outstanding results and the pilot study is now published in the Journal of Applied Animal Nutrition, (available here) further research is planned for the future with this product and the more we find out the more excited we become!

The feedback we receive every week makes our job so worthwhile and it is humbling to be helping so many horses.

Please feel free to contact us for further information.

Tell us about your history with horses?

I am a 26yr old who has been riding all my life. I grew up on a farm and sport horse stud in North Canterbury. I have previously competed to 2* eventing and Grand Prix Show Jumping. I have also ridden race horses for over 6 years.

What horses are currently on your team?
I have 9 horses in work at the moment but have three main horses for the season.
AA Bedazzled owned by Jo Anderson, a 12 year old tb chestnut gelding. Previously a 1* eventer. I am now competing him in SJ around 1.20-1.30. He has proved very good in speed classes so this is what we are mainly aiming for.
Dolly NZPH owned in partnership with Scott Massey. 5yr old bay Warmblood mare by Non Plus Ultra III. She's competing in 5yr old classes and 1.10m.
RV DiCaprio owned in partnership with Anna Pitts. 5yr old chestnut TB gelding by Pins. He's jumping at 1m and just won Champion Novice hack at CHCH show. He is being aiming for Rising Star of the Year at HOY.

What is the highlight of your equestrian career?
It's hard to just name one. A big one recently would be winning the Amateur Rider Show Jumping series for the 2016/2017 season.

What are you ambitions?
My goal now is to produce quality young horses, homebreds, warmbloods and off the track TB’s, for the eventing and show jumping markets both here and overseas.

Why do you use Maxia Complete on your team?
I was actually one of the first to try Maxia Complete. I had a very difficult TB I had got off the track that was being a nightmare to handle, ride and try and take out. Two weeks on double dose of Maxia and he was a different horse.
I then put my whole team on it and the difference in behaviour and the way they look was amazing. It has been really important in my work taking horses off the track and getting weight and muscle on.
Now every horse on my property is on it.

Tell us about your history with horses?
We have been riding at the top level on the NZ showjumping circuit for over 20 years and are also actively involved with hunting, racing and pony club.

What horses are currently on your team?
We have three horses jumping at Grand Prix level this year, McMillans Tipsey, McMillans Fredrika RE and McMillans Chuck. We compete nine horses most weekends, with the rest of the team made up with younger horses and the kid’s ponies. Anna and Tim are also both keen on their riding and have fun in the lower levels.

What is the highlight of your equestrian career?
We have both won the NZ Showjumper of the Year, won at World Cup level, won the Super League and Grand Prix Series and various age group, showhunter and equitation National Titles. We have represented NZ here and took team horses to Australia. The main highlight has been that we have achieved all this on either homebred and/or self produced horses.

What are you ambitions?
Our ambitions are to remain at the top level in NZ for another 20 years. We are breeding some exciting young horses and we hope to produce many more horses to the highest levels, for both ourselves and our children. We are also passionate about encouraging new riders to the sport and are motivated to improve and support horse riding at all levels.

Why do you use Maxia Complete on your team?
Traditionally, I have never been one to turn to additives to fix horse’s behavioural problems. But since trailing Maxia, I have noticed that there has been a remarkable improvement. Especially in the anxious, stressy types- Maxia has really settled them down to make them easier to handle, have more of an appetite and subsequently put more weight on. Now, Maxia has become an important part of our feeding program.
